Users may eventually experience unexpected behaviors with it such as freezes or specific buttons not responding. If this has happened to you, be aware that you can fix it without having to restart your Mac, so follow along for how to fix the Touch Bar when it stops working. Note that this process has only been tested on macOS Catalina, and we do not guarantee that it will work with other versions of the operating system. Instead, all you have to do is open the Terminal app, which comes preinstalled on your Mac.
Touch bar support

It provides additional controls for quick access based on the current context. The Control Strip in the right part of the Touch Bar includes controls for system-level tasks that are usually accessed with function keys on classic keyboards. The app region to the left of the Control Strip contains controls that are specific to RubyMine and the current context. One more system button is located in the left part of the Touch Bar; this is usually the Escape key, but it can be something else depending on the context.
How to Manually Refresh Touch Bar on MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro Touch Bar adds on to the existing utility the keyboard and the force touch trackpad already bring. The Touch Id can also be used as a fingerprint scanner for added security and functions similarly as that on iPhones and iPads. This makes it much easier to do things like switch between accounts and authorized Mac App Store payments. The Touch Bar debuted with the line of MacBook Pros, and has been a mainstay in the lineup ever since. Most of the time, the Touch Bar just needs to refresh its connection with the application.
Typically the Touch Bar gets itself back in working order once the troubled application in question becomes responsive, exited, or the app is force quit , but sometimes you may need to manually force the Touch Bar to refresh and reload. Remember, the Touch Bar is the entire touchable strip across the top of new model MacBook Pro keyboards, whereas Control Strip is just the far right portion of the Touch Bar display. You can target both, or either to manually force them to refresh. You can do this either though the Activity Monitor application or by the command line, whichever works best for your skill level:.
